New Dublin Vodafone Shirt Red, White and Blue
Talking Balls CommentsAFTER MUCH (well a wee bit of) debate on how Vodafone’s red corporate colour of red would sit on the Metropolitan’s new shirt following their € zillion deal just announced, it seems that the Dubs have bitten the bullet and gone for a straight red, white and blue shirt.
Various punters thought that the delay announcing the humdinger of a sponsorship deal was due to ongoing negotiations and indeed frantic appeals by the Dublin County Board and Gaels across the Capital. Some old fogies thought that in the spirit of Easter 1916 the Dubs would find someway to have Vodafone print their logo in a colour other than red – I mean the Vodafone wasn’t in red when they sponsored Clare was it?
But Talking Balls reckons that if someone is waving €6million at you, well that’s some amount of startled earwig killer, and damn hard to turn down. You have to hand it to their drawing power to attract this level of cash for a team that underperforms year in year out. But then, it’s the solid core of Dublin GAA people and the legions of others that the Boys in Blue attract to games that make this a no-brainer for Vodafone. (By the way, why is it any time we mention Dublin in Talking Balls we get flurries of hatemail from irate Dubs with no sense of humour? The last guy that email called Talking Balls a ‘bitter bogger’ and told us to get a life! The perks of this job are mighty!)
As for the sight of the Red White and Blue on the Hill? Well, folks will get over it. Just the same way we got over rugby in Croker, God Save the Queen and all the rest of it.
Anyhow, if you really want to win one of the new shirts, check the Vodafone competition.
