Dubs Defence ready for Mugsy Onslaught?
Talking Balls CommentsThen there was the infamous Battle of Omagh and next up the subsequent showdown under lights in Croker. These boys have history. Don’t forget Paddy Russell, Sean McLaughlin’s disallowed point and Charlie Redmond refusing to leave the field, the oul divil.
Tyrone 2008, a pale shadow of the team that cut a swathe through the Qualifiers in 2005, inspired then by the swashbuckling Stevie O’Neill who has now of course left the fold. Brian Dooher says there is no point talking about his Clann na Gael team-mate. O’Neill of course despatched one of a number of perfect penalties against the Dubs .
The Dubs since then have progressed under Pillar Caffrey but have still failed to reach the Holy Grail. Four Leinster titles in a row and the form line from Wexford and Kildare suggests Leinster football may not be as bad as some pundits claim.
The main talking point in 2005 was Mugsy’s wonder goal – since then he has endured periods of injury and loss of form. Can he agan emerge from the wreckage and ignite his own season and Tyrone’s with a repeat performance? With Mugsy you never know – all we’ll say is he has a track record of wreaking havoc against the Metropolitan’s defence from leaving a trail of defenders in his wake in Healy Park in 2005, to ‘That Goal’ and onwards to the spin and shoot effort that nailed Dublin’s comeback and clinched the result in the 2005. And what about the memorable non-celebration in front of the Hill?
You never know with Mugsy, form is temporary – class is, well, class.
