Led Zeppelin - legendary hurlers

Talking Balls

With the clash of the ash increasingly popular, stories are constantly emerging around the globe of a surprising number of celebrities with an interest in and passion for hurling.

It is believed that Argentinian icon and revolutionary Che Guevara clashed the ash when visiting fellow Rebels in Cork during a stop-over in Shannon in the early sixties. Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix was also clearly a virtuoso performer.

The latest accounts to emerge suggest that rock legends Led Zeppelin also had a passion for hurling, so much so they included the line ‘Hammer of the Gods’ in one of their catchy tunes.

Zeppelin were also renowned for their passion for extreme hotel makeovers. The story goes that as he settled up after another night of Championship level excess, manager Peter Grant was confronted with an exasperated hotel manager who was fed up seeing another 52 inch screen crash onto the carpark below. As Grant paid the bill, the hotel manager told him he’d always wanted to hurl a television from a top-floor window.

“Here,” said Grant, handing over a great wad of notes, “have one on me.”
